Beautiful Sydney newborns // Brisbane interstate newborn photographer

I was so privileged to recently attend a wonderful Newborn Posing workshop in Sydney, which was run by the lovely Lana Bell from Little Posers. I had such a good time, learning about posing techniques, settling babies, post processing, and getting to know other photographers who came along!

Here are just a couple of shots from the workshop… Posing by Lana, Photography by Me 🙂

ps….. just a little bit excited about my upcoming newborn sessions!!….

Beautiful little Ethan : 3 weeks of gorgeousness // Brisbane natural light newborn lifestyle photography

I love photographing little newborns, and I just love meeting their families too. This little one’s Mum contacted me a few weeks ago after he had arrived, and we quickly tee’d up a date to photograph him while he was still only a few weeks old. Little Ethan was sleeping in his crib when I arrived and I just couldn’t resist photographing him in his gorgeous nursery. I explored the family’s beautiful house, found some amazing large doors and lots of window light, and captured the family as they sat and relaxed, and smiled at their little boy.

The miracle of new life is always amazing, and I feel so privileged to be invited to meet these new little ones. Thankyou, “M” Family xx

Waiting on their new arrival // Indoor natural light pregnancy & maternity photography, Brisbane

I met this beautiful family a couple of weeks ago and we spent a rainy Saturday afternoon hanging out together, for stunning Mum Julia’s pregnancy portraits. Gorgeous little Miss 2 (nearly!) and big sister Miss 13 had cuddles with Mum on the couch, then we hung out in the playroom and had family tickles on Mum’s bed. Despite the rain and constant drizzle, their beautiful house had amazing window light which we took advantage of. After a few natural light portraits at their house, we came to my house to play with the indoor studio lighting. I love using fabrics and silk to wrap around my beautiful pregnant clients, and this day certainly didn’t disappoint. What a beautiful family to hang out with, I can’t wait to meet their new arrival in a few weeks!!

Tu-tu cute!! : Beach, Bush & Indoor Portraits // Baby & Family Photography, Brisbane North

Ahhh this little girl is just.so.cute. At 7 months old little Mia is exploring the big wide world around her, and the day before our session she even started crawling! You might recognise this beautiful couple from a few photos in my Pregnancy Gallery . It was a pleasure again to hang out with them, and even more now with little Mia in their lives. I just love the look on their faces when they giggle and laugh with their little princess. Such a beautiful family!

Usually a stormy, rainy day at the beach can provide some awesome images, but with a little bub in arms, we didn’t want to stay out there for long. We managed some cute shots of the family before we all got caught out and drenched in the middle of a downpour (huddling together under a tree with blankets over our heads)! I invited the family back to my house for a second go at portraits, and I’m so glad I did…. Mia showed off her very cute pink tu-tu before we headed down the road for a few hubby + wife “couple” shots in the bush. Lots of variety and LOTS of images!

A Fun Family Outing : Newspaper Hats + A Little Goldfish // Family and Children Photographer, Brisbane

Oh gosh this family was so much FUN! Mum, Dad, Teenager & Toddler …. you’d think that would be hard to handle but no! This family was super-duper fun and ready and willing to go with any ideas I had in mind, and the bond between the two brothers was so sweet. Such beautiful, gentle boys.

Like every session I hold, I chat with my clients beforehand, and plan and write up ideas that fit my family just perfect. These guys told me they loved hanging as a family playing football, doing a little fishing, and that they were up for any quirky ideas I had in mind. So we threw in some of their props (yummy lollipops, football, Tonka truck and blocks) and I added a few of mine (little red cart, newspaper hats and an excited little goldfish). And off we went 🙂

Sweet 6 month old baby boy // Lifestyle baby & family portraits, Brisbane Northside

A baby’s first year is so amazing. It’s incredible to watch a little newborn grow into an alert little 3 month old, and slowly finding their chubby hands and toes. Soon your baby is pushing up on their tummy, sitting by themselves, and learning that their little chubby legs will help them get around! By the time your baby is the big ONE, he might be chattering, trying to communicate with you, and maybe even toddling around. What an amazing year of growth!

This little boy is Hayden, a cutie patootie 6 month old, sitting up by himself and so close to commando crawling 🙂 Such a great age to photograph, he was happy to sit up like a big boy, and he just loved those snuggles with Mum and Dad. We started with indoor photos at their family home, then ventured out into a nearby paddock for some outdoor fun.

So if you’re thinking when is the best age to photograph your bub, I’d say the middle of your baby’s first year is just perfect! Wait for your bub to be sitting up unassisted, but not yet crawling. This usually happens around 6-9 months, depending on your baby. My baby was sitting by 6 months and crawling at 8 months…Every baby is unique 🙂 You can contact me any time to book in your baby’s portraits, but remember to give me a few weeks notice when bub is starting to sit up, and we can book you in asap. Before you know it, they’ll be taking on the world!

NEW! The lowdown on sitting fees…. and the reason to schedule portraits on a Weekday

Sitting fees are not hard to explain. Sitting fees might sound unnecessary, but they cover hours of behind-the-scenes work, plus the actual stuff you see. I am always being asked what the sitting fee is for. It’s a fee that I charge for the behind-the-scenes work. It’s the deposit that you pay, when booking your session, to secure your date. It’s also non-refundable (as outlined in our Portrait Agreement that you sign before your session), meaning that if you decide for some reason after you’ve paid, that you want to cancel your booking (and I’ve already done the legwork, or worse, already done the shoot!!) – its ok, you walk away, but I still get paid for my efforts. So, here’s just a few things that goes on “behind the scenes”, that explains what really goes on.

The stuff you don’t see :

– The paperwork : Emails / phone calls / invoices / filing / organising boring paperwork stuff into pretty Ikea shelving and Typo boxes 🙂

– The fun stuff : Organising your session. Writing down the particulars. Location – I want beach/bush/park/paddock/home/studio – check. Props – balloons/bed/bubbles/picnic rugs/colourful mats/teepee’s – check. Wardrobe – what will we wear?? – check.

– Location check (I “location-stalk” before every.single.session. I do not leave anything to chance. I scout the location, check it before your portrait date, and find the best areas for lighting/backgrounds. I check for back-up locations and I have been known to knock on stranger’s doors to ask if I can use their backyard/field/paddock/driveway for your portrait session (I send thank you cards afterwards). I have had cancellations of locations due to floods, RAIN!!!! argghhh, closed parks, and kids participating in triathlons, running down boardwalks at the beach, and closing nearby roads! (this week’s location dilemma). But don’t worry, I will always find an alternative for you 🙂

– Backing up all my cards with your precious memories. Backing up again. And again. Putting them on 3 external hard drives (2 at home, 1 at an external location), 2 computer hard drives, and again on DVD. Your images are so precious, and they are safe.

– Editing. Post processing. Whatever you want to call it. I call it hours/days sitting at the computer, culling images, rating them as different stars so I can find them easily, renaming, editing, logo’ing, saving. Uploading sneaky peeks onto Facebook. Making client galleries online. Assigning passwords, writing a little blurb about how lovely the session was and how much fun we all had (that’s the easy part!), emailing clients with logon details.

– Now that the client has seen them – Selecting some and uploading them onto my Website. Email clients again.  Send another invoice. Talk about products – Albums, prints, Art Mounts, Canvas….. Spend hours/days assembling albums. Email companies and follow up your products. Argue about shipping fees. Check and double-check before I send it off to my happy clients. (And don’t get me started on lining up at the Post Office!!!! Grrrr).

The stuff you do see:

– ME – I drive and meet you at the location. I spend 1.5 hours with your family. We have fun, we blow bubbles and tickle the kids. We spend 3 hours curling your newborn into cute poses, add hats/blankets/headbands and snap from every angle. I photograph away as you hold hands and skip through the fields with your family. I watch as you slurp ice-creams and laugh when it drips down your arm. I dress you in fabrics that show off your beautiful baby bump. I smile as you cuddle your newborn and wonder in amazement at the little life you have created. I share in your special moments and I am eternally grateful that you have asked me to be there with you.

A sitting fee doesn’t cover the hours/days of background stuff, but it’s there anyway. It might sound unnecessary and a bit expensive, but now you know what it’s used for and why I charge it. I might only spend a few hours with you, and I might only meet you face to face once, but I am a wife/mum/person too, and I charge for my time. I want the best for my family, and I want memories and pictures captured every step of the way. I want the best for YOU, too, and I work and plan and chat with you along the way, to ensure big smiles on your face when you see the end result.

Here’s something to make your next portrait session a little more affordable – Have your portraits done on a WEEKDAY!

You may not realise that I hold the majority of my portrait sessions either in the early morning (8am – 8.30am) or late afternoon (4.30pm) when the light is at its best. This also makes it a teeny bit easier to leave early from work, or fit it in around other daily commitments. My weekend sessions book about 4-6 weeks in advance, however my weekday sessions are readily available, so why not consider a weekday portrait session? Simple, easy, and leaves your weekends free! And a saving of $40?? Don’t pass that up 🙂

Use the Contact tab on my Facebook page, or email me at claire@clairepinderphotography.com.au to grab the Weekday rate and schedule your portrait session.

Little baby Phoebe : 7 days old // Brisbane Newborn Natural Light Photography

Little baby Phoebe and her lovely mum Natalie came to visit me last week for Phoebe’s Newborn session. It was a bit of a “practice” session – I mean, we all want to be better, don’t we! I take every opportunity I can to improve my skills and expand my knowledge 🙂 So I was so excited when Natalie contacted me to say that little Phoebe had arrived.

I love using props – different materials and textures, coloured wraps, headbands and little newborn things. And, it was an extra bonus for me when Natalie bought over some of her gorgeous handmade props from her home business, Baby Creations! Make sure you check her out on Facebook – Natalie makes beautiful children’s bunting (Tinkerbell, little Robots, red polka dots….), little baby headbands, and the cutest little butterflies! So, of course we incorporated a few into Phoebe’s session.
